Rest-of-Season Projections
Tate is set to report to short-season Eugene, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
The former first-round draft pick (2009) missed the beginning of the season to deal with a personal matter, and then spent the past seven weeks at the Padres' extended spring training facility. He's been a massive disappointment to date but is still just 22 years old.

While Tate certainly has the raw tools to become a better overall player given his patience at the plate, on-base skills and above-average speed, his short professional career has been marred by injuries and drug suspensions, including a 50-game ban in late June for his second violation of the league's substance abuse policy. He'll start 2012 back at Low-A and hopefully start to live up to that No. 3 overall draft selection in 2009.
