Downs was named after Derek Jeter, so it seemed inevitable that his career arc would eventually land him with the Yankees. The 25-year-old arrived in the Bronx via waiver claim over the offseason after another club, the Nationals, gave up on him. Downs was considered a borderline top-50 prospect after he went 20-20 in the minors for the Dodgers before being sent to the Red Sox in the Mookie Betts trade. It's been pretty disastrous for him since then, though, with Downs slashing just .202/.306/.370 at the Triple-A level and doing very little with his brief opportunities at the major-league level.
