2025 Fantasy Outlook
Sandoval recorded 16 starts before being diagnosed with a flexor tear and torn UCL in his left elbow. He avoided Tommy John surgery, instead undergoing internal brace surgery, shortening his recovery. Pre-injury, the southpaw appeared to be struggling, but his strikeout and walk rates were better than the previous season and his ERA estimators pegged his 5.08 ERA about a run too high. He was victimized by a .341 BABIP and 66.2 percent left on base mark. Now with the Red Sox, Sandoval isn't expected back until after the All-Star break. His role will likely depend on the health and performance of Boston's rotation, which consists of several risky starters. At best, Sandoval is a late dart in draft and hold formats, or a stash in leagues with a separate IL as the Red Sox and their biomechanics approach are gaining a reputation for developing pitching.
