Facing Penne in July
Fortino agreed to fight Jessica Penne in a strawweight bout at UFC's July 19 even, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
It was previously reported Fortino would be taking on Cynthia Calvillo in early June, but Calvillo will instead face Nina Nunes while Fortino matches up with Penne. Fortino has missed time with a hand injury and hasn't been in the Octagon since June 2020, when she lost to Tecia Torres via unanimous decision. Penne has won her past two bouts and is coming off a submission victory over Karolina Kowalkiewicz in August.

Returning from lengthy layoff
Van Buren (hand) will face Cynthia Calvillo (eye) in a strawweight matchup at a UFC even scheduled for June 4, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Van Buren will be back in the Octagon for the first time in nearly two years after she missed time due to a right hand injury. She most recently lost to Tecia Torres via unanimous decision in June of 2020, snapping a six-fight win streak. Calvillo fought in the flyweight division in each of her last four appearances, most recently losing to Andrea Lee via TKO (Corner Stoppage) in mid-November. She sustained an eye injury during the matchup that resulted in a six-month medical suspension. Calvillo has advantages in both height and reach.

Dealt medical suspension
The Nevada State Athletic Commission handed Van Buren a six-month medical suspension Tuesday after she sustained a right hand injury in her unanimous-decision loss to Tecia Torres over the weekend at UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Damon Martin of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Torres is set to undergo X-rays on her hand in the near future, and if the scans return positive, the six-month ban will officially go into effect. Though the suspension would prevent her from returning to competition until no earlier than Dec. 18, she would be eligible to fight prior to that date with full clearance from an orthopedic or sports medicine doctor.

Routed by Tecia Torres
Van Buren lost to Tecia Torres via unanimous decision (27-30, 27-30, 27-30) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Van Buren had a real opportunity to make a statement against a reeling opponent and was unable to do so. Blessed with an advantage in both the strength and grappling department, Van Buren seemed baffled throughout the course of the bout. She was credited with a pair of successful takedowns in Round 1 but did nothing with her brief positional advantage. It only got worse for Van Buren from there. Van Buren won't turn 27 years of age until August, so time is on her side, but the fact she was routed by a one -dimensional opponent in Torres is not a good sign. The loss snaps a six-fight win streak for BVB.

Scheduled for June 20 fight
Van Buren (undisclosed) is slated to face Tecia Torres in a strawweight matchup on the UFC's June 20 card, MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Van Buren's UFC sample size is small, but she did take home the victory via unanimous decision in a one-sided affair versus Livinha Souza last July. Next up is Tecia Torres, who is aiming to keep her spot with the company after four straight losses. Van Buren cedes an inch of height to Torres but sports a reach two inches longer, which works in her advantage after she landed 72 strikes (4.80 per minute) in her debut. This announcement should also serve as confirmation that whatever forced Van Buren off the UFC Raleigh card in January is no longer a concern.
