Boucher was limited to just 38 games due to a shoulder injury, and was unable to build upon his 2006-07 season as a result. His absence opened the door for a number of young Dallas defensemen, and has now put a healthy Boucher's placement on the top power play unit in jeopardy. There's some upside here, as he should be recovered from offseason hip surgery as well, but be aware they will likely be some injury-related absences again.
Boucher set career highs in every offensive category, and has taken over from Sergei Zubov as Dallas' main goal scoring threat on the power play. Boucher's heavy shot, and healthier forward group up front, should keep his point totals on par with his career high in 2007-08.
Boucher posted career highs in goals, assists, points, power play goals and power play assists in 2005-06. There's some depth on the Dallas blueline with the additions of Darryl Sydor, Jaroslav Modry and a healthy Janee Niinimaa, so expecting those totals again are unwise. Sydor took take over as Sergei Zubov's partner at even strength as well, which cuts into Boucher's value as well.
Dallas' best defenseman after Sergei Zubov, he'll be asked to soak up major minutes again this season. He'll get occasional time on the power play unit as well, making him a decent pick as your fill out your blue line requirements.
