2024 Fantasy Outlook
When you tally 20 goals and 50 points, including 14 power-play points, in your first full NHL season, you generally get rewarded with a sizable NHL contract. That was the case for Slafkovsky, who signed a max-length eight-year, $60.8 million contract extension with the Canadiens this offseason. Based on his new deal, the team appears to be expecting even bigger things out of the 20-year-old power forward, something that certainly isn't out of the question - though he will need to avoid the dreaded sophomore slump. Barring that potential slump, Slafkovsky should be capable of producing at an elite level heading into the 2024-25 campaign, making him a top-end fantasy target. Read Past Outlooks

Rebounds from benching
LWMontreal Canadiens
November 19, 2024
Slafkovsky had two shots, one block and one hit in Monday's 3-0 win over Edmonton.
ANALYSIS
Slafkovsky's name was not on the scoresheet, but he was the primary reason for Montreal's first goal. Late in the second period, he intercepted a pass in his own zone, which initiated a rush. Then, his dogged forecheck behind the net prompted another Edmonton turnover, leading to Brendan Gallagher's tip-in goal to give the Canadiens a 1-0 lead. It was a nice moment for the 20-year-old Slafkovsky, who was benched for a 10-minute stretch between the second and third periods of Saturday's win over the Blue Jackets.

2022
The No. 1 overall pick in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft, Slafkovsky began the season in Montreal as an 18-year-old. He missed three games early on with an upper-body injury and then was suspended for two games. He appeared in 39 of the first 44 games for the club before a lower-body ailment ended his year. Slafkovsky finished with four goals and 10 points. It's far too soon to call Slafkovsky a bust, but after seeing what guys like Logan Cooley and David Jiricek did a season ago, albeit not in the NHL, the early returns aren't great. That said, there's never been a No. 1 overall pick that isn't supremely talented, so Slafkovsky will get a chance to rebound in 2023-24. He remains an intriguing keeper and dynasty league asset.
Few had Slafkovsky pegged as a top-five pick for the 2022 draft at the start of last season. By the time all was said and done, he ended up passing Shane Wright and going No. 1 overall to Montreal. Slafkovsky played last season with TPS in Finland (5 goals, 10 points in 31 games) in addition to being named MVP of the Olympics while playing for his native Slovakia. He's a massive (6-foot-4) kid with excellent hands and a big shot, but he won't turn 19 years old until the end of March, so it's entirely possible he won't have legitimate redraft value until 2022-23. However, he's a top-tier pick in all keeper/dynasty formats.

Left off Olympic squad
LWMontreal Canadiens
August 19, 2024
Slafkovsky was not included in Slovakia's roster for Olympic qualifying contests, Szymon Szemberg of the Alliance of European Hockey Clubs reports Monday.
ANALYSIS
Slafkovsky suited up in seven games for Slovakia at the 2022 Winter Olympics in which he racked up seven goals, which makes it a bit of a surprise that he won't be joining the international squad this time around. It's possible the Canadiens didn't want the 20-year-old winger to play internationally after signing him to an eight-year, $60.8 million deal in the offseason.
