T60 finish at PGA Championship
May 21, 2019
Fisher closed with a two-over 72 on Sunday at the PGA Championship to finish in a tie for 60th place.
ANALYSIS
Fisher did not record a birdie in the final round. He struck the ball pretty well considering where he finished. The Englishman ranked 14th in SG: Off-the-tee and T6 in GIR's. Fisher's short game was atrocious, however, as he was 81st in SG: Around and 80th in scrambling percentage. In nine starts in 2019, Fisher has notched four top-25's. He will not be in the field for the Charles Schwab Challenge.

The 36-year-old Fisher enjoyed a career renaissance last season, rattling off six top-10s, including three in a row, by early July. But then the dark ages returned as he finished no higher than 36th in his last six events, missing the cut at the European Masters and the PGA Championship and dropping 10 spots to 53rd in the world. He'll at least have more opportunities on the PGA Tour this season.
Fisher, a European Tour regular who nearly won the British Open in 2009, came to Q-school to try get his PGA TOUR card to not only have a second place to play but, according to him, improve his chances of getting into the majors and World Golf Championship events. Well he did exactly that, finishing second overall. He also played like a veteran, shooting a third-round 65 and a final-round 66 on a day when many players crumble under the pressure.
isher won his first two matches at the WGC Match-play event last season and finished with a Top-15 at the Masters, so we know he can play. Will he take the next step this year? We've seen flashes from Fisher over the years, but he hasn't quite panned out as expected. This could be the year, then again, maybe he just shows flashes and no consistency again this season. Either way, he's worth a look as he'll come in handy during those big events.
Fisher is one of the best young players from the other side of the pond, and he showed some, but not all, of his talent last year. Fisher made a nice run at the British Open and success is only a matter of time. He'll likely play a Euro-heavy schedule in 2010, but he'll play enough PGA TOUR events to make a difference. Fisher, who ranked 29th at the end of 2008, finished at 18th in the final 2009 Official World Golf Rankings.
