Tommie Harris

We all know how dangerous Harris can be when healthy, but he hasn't had a season free of injuries since 2005, and he's already dealing with knee issues this year. If he can find a measure of healthy, he can be a force along the line and wreak havoc in the other team's backfield. Make sure he's healthy before committing to him as an IDP.

Harris had a career year in 2007, totaling eight sacks, nearly double his previous career high, even though he played through injuries for almost the entire year. He also chipped in 35 tackles and at age 25 has developed into one of the league's best defensive tackles. Harris' ongoing contract extension talks broke off in April, so he is in line for unrestricted free agency at season's end, which could provide added motivation. Look for continued improvement from Harris; double-digit sacks could be in his immediate future. Consider, however, his injury history: he missed four games in 2006 and played through various ailments to appear in all 16 games last season. When healthy, Harris uses his 295-pound frame like a bull in a china shop.

In just three years as a pro, Harris already has developed into one of the top defensive tackles in the NFL. He was on his way to another great campaign in 2006 before a ruptured hamstring unfortunately ended his season early. Despite playing in only 12 games, however, his five sacks and 28 tackles were enough to earn him his second Pro Bowl selection. Following his December hamstring surgery, Harris expects to be 100 percent entering this season and should be one of the top fantasy players at his position.

In just his second season in the league, Harris was selected as a Pro Bowl starter last year after recording 32 total tackles, three sacks and two forced fumbles. The explosive run stopper is quickly developing into one of the league's top defensive tackles and should have another great season in 2006.

Harris started all 16 games for the Bears in 2004, his rookie campaign. His solid season made him a candidate for defensive rookie of the year, and the former Sooner only figures to improve in his second year. Keep an eye on Harris, Chicago's starting defensive tackle, who could wind up having some fantasy value before all is said and done.

Harris, the 2003 Lombardi Trophy winner as the nation's best interior lineman, should win the starting job and make an immediate impact as a one-gap tackle in Coach Smith's aggressive defense. The rookie could do well under Smith, who knows a thing or two about getting good athletes like Harris to perform. As a defensive tackle it may be awhile before his sack totals can make a fantasy difference for you.
