Quinton Patton

Patton spent the majority of the 2015 season as the 49ers' slot receiver, producing 394 yards and a touchdown. Outside of Anquan Boldin, none of San Francisco's receivers produced fantasy-relevant seasons in their traditional offense. With Boldin gone and a fast-paced Chip Kelly offense ready to be implemented, there's potential for Patton to break out in 2016. He's currently the favorite to join Torrey Smith as the starting wideout tandem, but Patton will have to fend off younger receivers with more potential during the preseason.

It was another lackluster season for Patton in 2014, remaining behind veterans Stevie Johnson and Brandon Lloyd in the receiving pecking order. He finished the year with a paltry 44 yards on three catches while appearing in just four games all season. However, Patton is still young and possesses above average speed and solid hands despite being a bit undersized. With Crabtree, Johnson, and Lloyd gone, opportunities will arise for Patton to earn touches, but we have definitely heard that before. His position on the depth chart following training camp will give an idea of whether or not the 49ers still believe in the young receiver.

Patton battled through injuries as a rookie and never seemed to gain Colin Kaepernick's trust, resulting in some miserable totals at season's end. The 49ers brought in Stevie Johnson this offseason, pushing Patton further down the depth chart, and with fourth round pick Bruce Ellington and returning vet Brandon Lloyd also hunting for targets Patton will be in a fight just to keep his spot on the roster.

With Michael Crabtree tearing his Achilles' tendon this spring, there are suddenly extra targets available in the 49ers passing game. A fourth-round pick, Patton is one of the more polished receivers in the draft, and he impressed coaches in minicamp with his work ethic and attitude. At 6-0, 202 and with decent speed and good acceleration, Patton profiles more as a possession receiver than field stretcher, but he was a consistent playmaker in college – 104 catches and 13 TDs during his senior year and Louisiana Tech. Patton might also see work in the return game with Kyle Williams rehabbing a torn ACL.
