Kiwanuka was released by the Giants on Tuesday, NFL.com's Kimberly Jones reports.
ANALYSIS
The 32nd overall pick in the 2006 NFL Draft, Kiwanuka has 38.5 sacks over nine NFL seasons, all spent with Big Blue. He only had 2.5 sacks in 12 games in 2014, and while his knee should be healthy before training camp, he may have trouble landing a starting job.

Starting veteran defensive end, opposite Jason Pierre-Paul now that Justin Tuck is gone. Having a strong camp.
Kiwanuka will serve as a situational pass-rusher behind Justin Tuck and Jason Pierre-Paul for the Giants in 2013.
Starting strong side outside linebacker is hampered by his position where he typically faces extra blockers. Kiwanuka is also a very capable pass rusher and can lineup at end on passing downs.
Strong side linebacker, could be a good source of sacks if he stays healthy.
First-rate pass rusher will be a big part of the team's defensive line rotation, but Osi Umenyiora could push him for a starting job. Either way, Kiwanuka should be on the field a lot and could approach double-digit sacks.
Kiwanuka gives the Giants a third top-flight pass rusher to go along with Justin Tuck and Osi Umenyiora. Kiwanuka isn't like to start, but on passing downs Tuck will move to the interior of the line with Kiwanuka playing on the end. Double digit sacks are possible, but Kiwanuka is unlikely to be an every down player.
Returning from a broken fibula, Kiwanuka will be the team's starting strong side linebacker and top pass rushing threat from the linebacking corps. There's also a chance he could see time at defensive end.
Kiwanuka will bring his big-time pass rushing skills to strong side linebacker this season. If he qualifies at defensive end in your leagues, that could be a bonus, but keep in mind that he'll have less chances to make tackles with the tight end blocking him on the strong side. Still, he has the pass-rushing skills to approach double-digit sacks as a linebacker, especially with teams scheming to block Michael Strahan and Osi Umenyiora.
The Giants first round pick in 2006 is a pass-rushing specialist, with great quickness and tremendous burst. His long arms and good height will allow him to bat down passes at the line as well. The Giants vow to work Kiwanuka into the defense during his rookie season, but with Pro Bowlers Michael Strahan, Osi Umenyiora and quality reserve DE Justin Tuck around, it's hard to see him making a major IDP impact.
