Peerman (shoulder) was placed on injured reserve Tuesday, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
With Jeremy Hill (ankle), Giovani Bernard and Joe Mixon all lined up to play with the Bengals, Peerman wasn't slated for many offensive snaps anyway. He would have been able to vie for return opportunities if it wasn't for the emergence of Alex Erickson in 2016, so even if Peerman does get healthy enough to be activated, don't expect the Bengals to choose that route.

Peerman played just six games in 2016 after a fractured forearm cost him most of the season. He ended the year with just 15 yards rushing on six carries. The addition of Joe Mixon in the 2017 NFL Draft likely relegates Peerman to the team's No. 4 running back position, which doesn't leave him with much fantasy value. Don't look for Peerman to have any reliable fantasy production unless a myriad of injuries to the Bengals' backfield forces him up the depth chart.
With the two-headed monster of Giovani Bernard and Jeremy Hill leading the Bengals' rushing attack, Peerman is rather marginalized in the backfield. In fact, despite being active for all 16 games last season, Peerman did not record a single offensive touch. Instead, his statistical contributions came exclusively on special teams.
Peerman is a special teams ace and the Bengals' top gunner on return coverage. He rarely sees action on the offensive side of the ball, however, getting just 44 snaps on offense in 2014, even with Giovani Bernard missing three games. In a pinch Peerman can be useful as a pass-catcher, but his inability to pick up blitzes prevents him from getting too many reps on third downs.
Peerman will battle it out with Rex Burkhead for a chance to play behind Giovani Bernard, BenJarvus Green-Ellis and Jeremy Hill in a crowded running back group in Cincinnati.
Peerman will be a reserve running back behind BenJarvus Green-Ellis, Giovani Bernard, and Bernard Scott.
Peerman will provide depth to the Bengals' backfield.
Longshot to win a roster spot as the #4 running back behind Cedric Benson, Bernard Scott and Brian Leonard.
Peerman is a solid all-around back, willing to block and catch passes as well as run the ball between the tackles. Behind Willis McGahee, Ray Rice and Le'Ron McClain, Peerman will have a tough time seeing the field, however. As a rookie, he'll likely need the seasoning anyway.
