Rises to active roster
DTDenver Broncos
October 27, 2020
The Broncos signed Williams to the active roster Tuesday, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
ANALYSIS
Williams was cut last Friday and landed on the Broncos' practice squad, but following news that Purcell (foot) is out for the season, Williams was brought back to the active roster. McTelvin Agim is expected to start at nose tackle moving forward, but Williams should handle a decent workload with Purcell out of the picture.

After parting ways with veteran Haloti Ngata this offseason, Detroit moved quickly to bring in another former first-rounder in Williams, who served as a quality run-stuffing defensive tackle during both of his stints with the Broncos and the Titans over the past five seasons. The North Carolina product should slide right into a starting job with the Lions, but Williams has never reached 30 tackles in a single season, leaving him on the peripherals of the fantasy radar.
Williams underwhelmed in Denver after being drafted 28th overall back in 2013, combining for just 94 tackles and six sacks over his four seasons there. The big-bodied nose tackle fills a need for the Titans, but he'll need to take his game to a new level to get on the radar in IDP formats.
The 2013 first-round pick was slow to impress in his first two years in Denver, but made strides as Wade Phillips' man in the middle. His three sacks in 2015 were more than his first two seasons combined. He has little competition for the starting job in 2016 and will be battling for a new contract after the Broncos decided not to exercise is fifth-year option.
Williams started playing more toward the end of last season and will likely start on the interior of the defensive line again. However, he isn't a big tackle-accumulator and doesn't get to the quarterback that much, which leaves him as a fairly limited fantasy IDP.
First round draft pick will compete with Kevin Vickerson for a starting defensive tackle. However, he's got limited fantasy upside due to his low tackle-accumulating position.
