Owusu being waived comes while he's trying to overcome a concussion. If no team claims him off waivers, Owusu will revert to the Jets' injured reserve list. In a corresponding roster move, the Jets activated running back Stevan Ridley on Friday.

Owusu will likely be used in mulitple-receiver sets and as a kick returner. If injuries occur to the top receivers on the Jets' depth chart, he could see regular snaps on a weekly basis.

Leg injuries over his two pro seasons haven't allowed Owusus to flash the sub-4.40 speed he displayed in college, but if he can stay healthy Tampa Bay has a dire need for someone who can stretch the field behind twin towers Vincent Jackson and first round pick Mike Evans.

If he makes the team in 2013 Owusu could be in the PR/KR mix as will as serve as WR depth.
