Rest-of-Season Projections
Montgomery suffered a fractured left tibia in Sunday's win over the Raiders and has been placed on season-ending injured reserve, Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Montgomery, who signed a one-year contract with the Bears this offseason due in large part with his familiarity with head coach John Fox and offensive coordinator Adam Gase from his days in Denver, started the first four games at center for the Bears. The team is expected to replace him in the lineup with rookie Hroniss Grasu, who has been inactive for all four games, or move left guard Matt Slauson over to center.

2013
Signed to a one-year deal in April, Montgomery, a 10-year veteran, could be the frontrunner to start at center for the Bears this season, though rookie third-rounder Hroniss Grasu is clearly the future at the position. Still, after starting eight games with the Broncos a season ago, Montgomery will have the significant advantage of having previous familiarity with coordinator Adam Gase’s system and the pre-snap reads it demands from the center. Montgomery offers enough mobility to fit Gase’s run-blocking schemes, though Grasu is a superior athlete who could eventually make a push for more duties as the season wears on.
