The 49ers have signed Pears to a two-year deal, ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Pears, who spent the past five seasons with the Bills, is a candidate to compete for the 49ers' starting left guard spot, in the wake of Mike Iupati's free agent departure. The 32-year-old lineman can also provide the team with depth at right tackle behind starter Anthony Davis.

Pears will almost assuredly start on the offensive line with the 49ers this season. But given his versatility and the amount of vacancies on the line in San Francisco, it is unclear where exactly he will play. The most logical spot is filling in at right tackle for the recently retired Anthony Davis.
Pears was used as a starter on the offensive line last season but may see himself on the bench this season due to the arrival of Chris Kouandjio and Chris Williams.
Pears has a chance to beat out Chris Hairston for the starting right tackle job in Buffalo. Pears is seen as being the healthier option and has an edge in the competition.
Starting offensive right tackle on an improving unit. Pears isn't a star, but he did well in 2011 and is becoming a pretty reliable lineman. The Bills' O-Line strength is in their interior, but Pears at RT is much less of a question mark than the Bills trying to figure out their left tackle solution.
