Junior Galette

Galette signed with the Redskins in 2015 looking to prove himself and earn a big payday. However, he suffered a torn Achilles' in the preseason and never touched the field. He returns with plenty to prove. Before the injury, he was known as a strong pass rusher, recording double-digit sacks in 2013 and 2014. If he's healthy, he could put up big numbers playing alongside Ryan Kerrigan and Preston Smith this season.

After signing a four-year, $41.5 million extension last September, Galette made good on the deal in 2014, notching 10 sacks - his second consecutive season with double-digit sacks. This offseason, however, Galette found his name in the papers for all the wrong reasons. In January, Galette was arrested on a misdemeanor domestic violence charge. That charge was eventually dropped, but he was named in a civil lawsuit related to those allegations in February. In June it was revealed that Galette had suffered a torn pectoral muscle. There was concern he would need surgery, which might come with a recovery timetable in the range of 5-6 months, but after a visit with specialist Dr. James Andrews, Galette will instead try to treat the injury with rest and rehab, hoping to be healthy in time for Week 1. Of bigger concern for Galette is a video that recently surfaced that allegedly shows him striking a woman with a belt in 2013. After submitting the video to the league office, the Saints released Galette in July, and a suspension might still be forthcoming. Even if Galette is able to land with a team and avoid league discipline, there's risk associated with deploying Galette in IDP leagues. Though primarily a pass rusher, he's listed as a linebacker in most leagues. In such a format, linebackers are typically a position of consistency, as much of their value is tied to their ability to post substantial tackle totals. Galette, however, has managed only 95 tackles over his last two full seasons -- a little over three per game -- a low number for a linebacker. As such, Galette is a high-upside IDP option, but one that comes with both on-field and off-field concerns that should be taken into account.

Galette finished sixth in the NFL with 12 sacks in 2013. Rushing the passer is clearly a specialty for the sack-happy Galette as an outside linebacker in the Saints 3-4 defense. The question, however, is whether Galette can make enough stops to warrant starting at linebacker over more consistent options in IDP leagues, as he had only 40 tackles on the season. As such, Galette presents a high-risk, high-reward option for owners in IDP leagues.

With Victor Butler likely to miss the entire 2013 season with a torn ACL, Galette will start at outside linebacker in the Saints' 3-4 defense. Galette played defensive end his first three seasons in New Orleans after signing as an undrafted free agent in 2010. With 9.5 sacks in limited playing time the last two years, he projects as an interesting IDP sleeper if he can hold onto the starting spot.

Galette is expected to see playing time in the defensive end rotation, and could even start while Will Smith is suspended for the first four games of the year.

Galette will compete for a roster spot on the defensive line with the Saints.

Galette made the Saints 53-man roster as an undrafted free agent. He will contribute mainly on special teams if he is active on game days.
