Rest-of-Season Projections
Announces retirement
Mack announced his retirement Thursday, Michael Silver of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Mack was contemplating retirement throughout the offseason, and he'll ultimately elect to hang up his cleats following 13 professional seasons with the Browns, Falcons and 49ers. Jake Brendel and Dohnovan West seem like the most likely candidates to start at center for San Francisco in 2022.

Pondering future
Mack is considering retirement and will take some time before making his decision, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Mack has done the same thing each of the last few seasons, and this offseason will be no exception. He signed with San Francisco prior to the 2021 campaign, and he proved to be a strong addition while being named to his seventh Pro Bowl. If Mack were to retire, his absence would leave a substantial gap in the offensive line as Jake Brendel -- who has started only three games across six seasons -- is the only other center currently on the roster. In contrast, if Mack decides to continue his career, he has two years remaining on his contract with the 49ers.
