Jones will be a backup at safety for the Lions, who have had some injury concerns at the position over the past few years.
Jones is a solid strong safety who is one of those players that is better in real-life than fantasy. 70+ tackles and a few interceptions is his ceiling at this point from a production standpoint.
A key free agent signing for the Buccaneers this offseason, Jones may supplant incumbent Sabby Piscitelli at strong safety in 2010.
One of the best ball-hawking safeties in the league (14 interceptions over the last three seasons), Jones will move into the starting spot in Philadelphia’s secondary recently vacated by Brian Dawkins. Interceptions are just part of Jones’ game – he racked up 111 tackles in 2006 and another 96 in 2007. He was slowed by ankle and knee injuries last season, which limited him to 56 tackles in 12 games. He should return to form in 2009 as part of what should be an excellent Philly defense, alongside the talented Quentin Mickell at strong safety. If healthy, his track record suggests another five interceptions or so and 90-plus tackles.
Jones recorded a monstrous 111 tackles in 2006 and came close to the century mark again in 2007, finishing with 96. He made five interceptions for the second straight season and has been extremely consistent in his two seasons as a starter. Jones might receive even more chances to make plays in 2008 after standout cornerback Leigh Bodden was traded to Detroit in March. Jones is fast, powerful and is like a heat-seeking missile when he approaches a ball carrier.
Jones continues to get better every season and he could post some very solid numbers this year. He consistently has a high number of tackles and is a worthy IDP pick.
He is one of many players competing for a starting spot in the Browns' secondary. He's also coming off recent knee surgery.
Jones will compete for a starting position. He is attempting to come back from season-ending ACL surgery in 2004 and he has the potential to be a standout player.
Jones is out for the season with an injury. He played both free and strong safety in college for the Georgia Bulldogs. He was third on the team in tackles last year with 121, had five interceptions, five deflections and blocked three kicks – all with a pinched nerve in his shoulder. Expect him to have an impact next season.
