Losing grip on starting role?
September 26, 2016
Cooper ran for 64 yards on 13 carries against Iowa State on Saturday while fellow running back Zamore Zigler ran for 104 yards on 24 carries.
ANALYSIS
Cooper was more efficient, but Zigler clearly has his foot in the door with 41 carries for 220 yards and two touchdowns on the year. Cooper hasn't been bad, but his own 62 carries for 278 yards and one touchdown aren't compelling San Jose State's coaches to make him the workhorse. In a struggling offense with an uncertain workload, Cooper doesn't look like much of a fantasy option in most leagues right now.

Past Fantasy Outlooks

2010
Once one of the nation's most promising young running backs, Cooper (6-0, 201) suffered through three ACL tears starting in 2010 before finally getting on the field as a junior in 2013. With Bishop Sankey in the NFL, there is a big opportunity at the position, and it's likely up to Cooper and Dwayne Washington to step into that void. It's possible both will play extensively this year, but Cooper could have an edge considering his comeback effort. He ran for 270 yards (6.3 YPC) and three touchdowns last year while Washington ran for 332 (7.1 YPC) and four scores.
Cooper has had a lot of trouble with ACL injuries at Washington, but if he's healthy he has the talent to earn a role with Washington this year, even with the emergence of star runner Bishop Sankey. Even if he's healthy, though, Cooper is unlikely to make a fantasy impact as long as Sankey is on the field.
Cooper is formally no higher than third on the Washington depth chart, but he's too talented to keep off the field for long. Look for him to emerge as a regular change-of-pace runner behind starter Chris Polk, and look for him to put up big numbers if Polk misses any time due to injury.
