Deal got onto the field quicker than anticipated as a freshman last season with Corey Clement sidelined most of the year with a sports hernia and an off-field incident. He ended up with the second-most rushes and rushing yardage on the team, taking 117 carries for 503 yards (4.30 YPC) while scoring six rushing touchdowns. However, Clement’s return will likely push Deal down to third on the depth chart while Dare Ogunbowale is poised to be the Badgers’ second back. Deal is the biggest of that running back trio, checking in at 6-1, 220, but he has the least experience among the three and he didn’t get the chance to truly prove himself as a pass catcher last season, either. Barring more injury issues to the Badger backfield, Deal could be looking at a relatively quiet sophomore campaign in 2016.
