James got off to a hot start last season with 363 yards and five touchdowns before a torn ACL knocked him out for the year in the third game. The injury occurred early enough in the 2014 campaign that he’s expected to be at 100 percent for the start of fall camp, where he’s expected to work with the starters. Robert Martin and Josh Hicks’ impressive showings as true freshmen should ensure them a role in Rutgers’ offense, but James figures to be the top dog. James and the rest of the Rutgers backs should also benefit from a more run-heavy approach, at least in the early going, as first-year starting QB Chris Laviano gets acclimated to being the Scarlet Knights’ signal caller.
