ANALYSIS
A great capper to Cato's college career. Now, Marshall has to try and find a new quarterback, and this will have a major impact on how good the Thundering Herd can be on offense next season.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2014
2013
2012
Cato is destined to go down as one of the all-time most productive passers, as he heads into his fourth year as starter coming off consecutive seasons of at least 3,900 yards and 37 touchdowns. Cato added a new dimension last year, emerging as a rushing threat with 294 yards and six touchdowns. There might be some slight concern for Cato's red-zone effectiveness this season since tight end/touchdown machine Gator Hoskins was lost to graduation after scoring 25 touchdowns the last two years, but lead receiver Tommy Shuler (106 catches in 2013) returns, as does three-fifths of Cato's offensive line.
It's a bit concerning that Marshall lost co-offensive coordinator Tony Petersen to Louisiana Tech, but the other half of that tandem (and primary playcaller) Bill Legg still remains with Marshall. That should mean another big season for Cato, who threw 48.7 passes per game as Marshall played in a constant shootout mode in 2012. Cato finished with 4,201 yards (7.2 YPA), 37 touchdowns and 11 interceptions and, while it's a bit of a red flag that he lost his two top playmaking receivers in Antavious Wilson and Aaron Dobson, Cato will once again have top wideout Tommy Shuler this year, and Penn State transfers Devon Smith and Shawney Kersey provide some BCS talent for breakout potential.
Cato performed aptly as a freshman in 2011, completing 59.9 percent of his passes and throwing for 2,059 yards, while posting a respectable 15-11 touchdown-to-interception ratio. He returns to Marshall for his sophomore season as a second-year starter for the Thundering Herd. Cato loses his third-leading receiver Troy Evans, who was a senior last season, but Aaron Dobson and Antavious Wilson are a very good one-two tandem.
