Released by Detroit
Perez was released by the Tigers on Thursday, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
ANALYSIS
Perez at one point ranked as a consensus top-100 prospect, but he's battled injuries and ineffectiveness over the last handful of seasons. The 25-year-old right-hander posted a 6.89 ERA with 12 walks and seven strikeouts in 15.2 innings of relief this summer between the rookie-level Florida Complex League and Low-A Lakeland.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2019
2018
2017
Between stints on the disabled list with a right lat strain and right shoulder inflammation, Perez threw just 19.1 innings last season. A key piece in the Tigers' return for Justin Verlander, Perez struggled in his limited time on the mound in 2018. He also missed time in 2017 with knee and blister issues, totaling 86.1 innings that season. Scouts have long dreamed on Perez, whose bag of tricks includes a mid-90s fastball, three potential above-average secondaries and above-average command, but because of all the lost development time in recent years, Perez is still much more projection than anything. He is just 21 and there is plenty of time for Perez to reach his ceiling. In the immediate future, Perez's primary goal should be just staying healthy and pushing up close to 100 innings for the first time.
