Past Fantasy Outlooks
2008
2007
2006
McAnulty had a good chance to win San Diego's fourth or fifth outfielder's job in 2007, but a troublesome quad injury and a tough year at the plate made it a year to forget. He could have a similar chance to win a part-time role in 2008. McAnulty's OPS has routinely been in the .900 range in the minors, however, his major league experience is very limited and far less successful. His best-case 2008 scenario is probably as a pinch-hitter/spot starter with the Padres.
McAnulty had a good season at Triple-A in 2006, but is hurt by the Padres' depth at first base, third base and in the outfield, his most likely positions. The gap-hitter might squeeze into a backup/pinch-hitting role with San Diego in 2007.
McAnulty made his major league debut in 2005, hitting .208 in 22 late season games. He was the Padres 2004 minor league player of the year, but his defense needs to catch up with his performance at the dish if he wants regular work. With Brian Giles still roaming in right, McAnulty doesn't figure to start in 2006. Even so, he's a good keeper pick.
