Linares had a strong spring training in 2011 and it looked like the 27-year-old Cuban defector might be able to help at the major league level at some point, but he suffered a season-ending ankle injury in May. He's advanced defensively in center field and is acclimating to the pitching in the States. He's healthy again and played in the Arizona Fall League. Learning to hit secondary offerings will be key to advancement. Linares will likely be assigned to Triple-A Pawtucket where we'll see if he can develop a more consistent bat, improve his pitch selection and cover more of the plate.
