LA - Javy Guerra picked up a flawless save against the Astros on Sunday, which was the same day that Hong-Chih Kuo came off the disabled list. Kuo was supposed to immediately inherit the Dodgers' closer role, but it looks like Guerra is still in the mix. The situation could become messier once Jonathan Broxton returns.

Recommended Pickup
Alcides Escobar, SS, KC - For pretty much the entirety of his major league career, Escobar has had the reputation of being a glove-first, glove-second, bat-10th sort of guy, and it looks like he is in prime position to earn a Gold Glove in his first AL season (he ranks first among AL shortstops in range factor, assists and putouts and third in fielding percentage). So it would be understandable if you had not noticed that Escobar has tallied more hits (22) than outs (21) over his last 12 games, which is good for a .512 batting average and .543 OBP in 43 at-bats. The increased on-base opportunities has permitted him to nab six bags over that span and score 11 runs. While it would be totally unrealistic to expect him to hit anywhere near this level going forward, it looks like his bat is no longer a guaranteed hole in the lineup and shortstop is one of the few positions at which the Royals do not have a hot-shot prospect waiting in the wings.
